Hankook Junior Prize competitor Kris Farrell recently gave us a brief update on his progress from the first 2 rounds of the Hankook MSA Northern Ireland Rally Championship.
2010 is Kris’s first year of Rally competition in his 1400 Proton Satria and following 2 circuit based events, he heads out on to the closed roads of the Circuit of Ireland Rally for his first experience of a Stage Rally.

27th Feb Kirkistown – First time out in the car, the main aim here was to get to know the car and get a decent finish. The set-up was, six track-like stages, consisting of tar, concrete and some gravel. Started off slowly, and gradually upped the pace throughout the day. Against some tough opposition, who have been participating here on an annual basis. Finished seventh in class, and last stage time was fourth quickest. Car looked and stood out well, and gained lots of positive comments from media and fans.

13th Mar Bishopscourt – Six similar track-like stages. Car set-up improved, including brakes and suspension. Once again, the class opposition was very experienced at this venue. Put in some very quick times to secure third in the class, and only twelve seconds off second place. A very good result, on only my second rally! Once again, car stood out, and there were many photographers on hand taking pictures. Car gained a lot of attention from fans, and many came over in service to view and ask questions. Media was present, and got a mention in local paper (Impartial Reporter).

Really looking forward to next round: The Circuit Of Ireland. This will be my first time on closed roads, night stages, using pace-notes and new navigator: Darragh Mullen, Sligo. Weekend will be a big challenge, but relishing the opportunity!
