Kris Farrell – Proton Satria Rally Update

Posted on Monday 25th Oct 2010

Hankook Junior driver Kris Farrell has again sent us this progress report from his latest outings on the forestry stages of the Hankook MSA Northern Ireland Rally Championship. Over the last 2 events Kris has experienced two very different results, explained in his own words.

Update Of Progress

25th September: Bushwacker Rally

After two non-finishes in the previous rounds, the aim from the outset was to score some championship points. We posted some steady stage times on the opening stages, but were unhappy with how the car was handling. In service we found that the wheel alignment had been knocked out (possibly by clipping a big rock on the first stage). Once we got it sorted, we became embroiled in a battle for third place with Niall Donnelly. Over the course of the rally we swapped positions six times! In the end up we had to settle for fourth place, just 3 seconds behind the third placed Donnelly! A good result; and some well needed points to keep us in second place in the Hankook MSA Northern Ireland Rally Championship for Class 3.

23rd October: Down Rally

We were all ‘revved’ up for the Down Rally, and were looking forward to be running first on the road. On the road section out to the first stage the car felt great, and ready to attack the Down forestry. But on arrival to the first stage, I went to select first gear, but the car would not take it? In fact, it would not take any gears. We believe it was caused by a bent selector rod, but cannot be sure until we get the gearbox opened up. Indeed it was a very disappointing day, and proves, although rallying is a great sport, it can also be a very cruel one…

The final round of the Hankook MSA Northern Ireland Rally Championship is the Glens Of Antrim Rally 6th November. Even though the championship out of reach, I plan to have a really good attack on the ‘Glens’. A top three finish in the championship is still possible, and with a good result, I hope to achieve this.
