Hankook Welsh Rally Championship RD2 Report

Posted on Tuesday 30th Mar 2010

As well as title sponsors to the Northern Ireland Rally Championship, Hankook Tyres are also the Title Sponsor of our rallying neighbours in Scotland and Wales. Below is a report from RD2 of the Hankook MSA Welsh National Rally Championship. Brought to you via Rallybuzz.

Alex Allingham and Mark Glennerster took the top podium spot on Saturday’s Bulldog National Rally therefore claiming maximum points on the second round in the Hankook MSA Welsh National  Rally Championship.

Alex admitted to “not waking up” on the first couple of stages but a charge through the stages after service saw them take the win by just over five seconds. Alex missed the first round so the win really puts his championship campaign on the map.

Paul Davy is now getting to grips with the Subaru taking a six second lead after the first stage. There was little between the two Subaru’s as they battled for the lead. On the longest stage of the day Paul stopped the clock on 12:12:4 and Alex 12:12:5.  A fine second means Paul Davy and Roger Allan lead the overall championship standings by nine points.

Paul Walker and Mark Lewis Welsh Clubman’s champions in 2008 finished third overall in his B13 Impreza forty-five seconds behind Davy. Paul felt the car was losing out on the longer stages.
Martin and Peter Newcombe, Evo 6, took fourth the only non Subaru in the top six followed by Wug Utting/Bob Stokoe 1min 28 sec’s behind the winner.
Shon Rees/Owain Davies took a sixth overall, Shon admitting that he was driving for a finish after their Wyedean retirement.

In the Juniors Luke Francis Evo 8 who after a good run through Dyfi Main was on his way to maintain his lead in the junior category when a roll on the final stage let Shon Rees through to take maximum points whilst Sion Matthews consistent performance heads the table.
